a two-block woodcut print inspired by a Japanese folk story -
"Once there was a boy who loved drawing cats. One night he stayed in a deserted Temple. He painted a big cat on a screen. At night when he was sleeping, he heard loud noises. The next morning, he found a monster rat dead outside his sleeping corner, and the cat he painted on the screen the night before had moved position with a little blood spot on his face "
I printed these two blocks on two separate sheets of Japanese rice paper , and then stacked them together.

I was happy to find some really translucent kozo papers for the block of the Sleeping boy :)

the inked background.

a variation.....fun experiment :)
